About the Event

Friday the 13th was once considered to be a time of powerful creativity and wisdom, honoring cycles of creation, death, and re-birth. A magical day, full of possibility, nourishment, and transformation. A threshold time. The practice of yoga Nidra is a threshold practice, holding both sleep and waking, connecting to the space of mystery, of drawing forth from the void.

Together we'll transition into the space of nidra with some gentle physical unwinding, followed by a practice exploring the themes of THRESHOLDS & LIMINAL SPACES. What are we releasing? What are we moving toward? How do we move through doorways with patience and compassion? What emotions bubble forth as we wade into the unknown? What gifts might be needed to support us? Nidra is a practice that meets us exactly as we are, offering a nourishing, supported experience of moving between states of being.

New to Nidra?

Yoga Nidra can roughly be translated as Yoga Sleep or Conscious Sleep. The word nidra has an additional meaning beyond sleepNi means void and dru means to draw forth or revealNidra invites us to develop a relationship to mystery, transitional spaces, expansiveness, planting intention, and receiving deep wisdom from within. A journey that invites the receiver into a state of conscious, deep relaxation, nidra weaves together elements of guided meditation, visualization, and breathwork.

About our nidra guide, Hope:

Hope Barnes received her certification in psychologically sensitive yoga from Room to Breathe. She has also studied yoga nidra with Sam Bianchini and Yoli Maya Yeh. Other things she loves are acting, learning about plants and herbs, neighborhood mutual aid, making care packages, and getting postcards in the mail. In September, she will begin a 10-month apprenticeship in herbalism and regenerative healing. To get in touch: hopebarnesyoga@gmail.com (for questions, thoughts, personalized nidras, other upcoming offerings, and definitely if you want to share any book, music, or podcast recommendations).
