About the Event
Join 500-hour registered yoga teacher Allison Hendrix and PhD student in Clinical Psychology Isabel Quinones in presentation, discussion, and movement practices centered around living more beautifully with uncertainty.
Most of us have, at some point, done some inner work on accepting the uncertainty of life. Making peace with what we can't control. And then 2020 was like, "oh you've done some of that work?! Time to level up!" And we've had months and months of not knowing. Not being able to plan. Not having any solid ground beneath us.
In this two-hour workshop, we will look more closely at our evolutionary development of anxiety and fear as useful survival mechanisms, how they can get away from us in times of great chaos, and what tools we have to live more peacefully through it all.
We'll gather in community for meditation, lecture/presentation, embodied practice (a combination of yoga, strength, and free movement suitable for all levels), journaling, and discussion. After the workshop, you'll receive a beautiful digital workbook with outlines of the topics covered and continued questions for thought.
MORE ABOUT YOUR HOSTS:
Isabel C. Quiñones is a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsychology Cognition Neuroscience and a minor in Gender studies. Isabel is currently a practicum student at the University of Illinois at Chicago Bariatric Surgery Program conducting pre-surgery evaluations with patients. As part of the Eating Behavior Lab at IIT, under the direction of Dr. Alissa Haedt-Matt, Isabel’s research focuses on eating pathology assessment and prevention with a focus in the Latino population. Isabel hopes to continue serving the Latino community through her clinical and research career. As a proud Latina she hopes to use her experiences in helping others achieve their goals in the mental health field. Isabel began practicing yoga with her Mom in high school to improve her flexibility and strength for tennis. However, she quickly found the benefits that yoga had to offer for her mental health as well. As Isabel continues to pursue her education in psychology, she has become more and
more interested in the intersection between mental health and yoga practice. and is excited to continue exploring how yoga can improve the physical and mental health of her patients and herself.
Allison Hendrix is a yoga instructor, pianist, and theatre-maker. She has been practicing yoga for over twenty-four years and teaching since 2012. She earned her 200-hr teaching certificate via Chicago's Yogaview, and recently completed her 500-hr certification with Jason Crandell. She has invested the last decade in continuing education workshops from master teachers such as Maty Ezraty, Noah Maze, Kathryn Budig, Tim Feldmann, Tim Miller, and more. She has been lucky enough to work with creative and cognitive behavior therapists throughout her life, always and forever exploring the intersections of mental health and bodily wellness. She has spent more recent learning time focusing in on social change, trauma, and broadening ideas of what 'wellness' means, in the context of practicing and teaching yoga. When teaching, Allison pulls from experience in many different styles of yoga to create alignment-based flows with a playful and adventurous energy. She also brings her training in a myriad of movement modalities such as ballet, pilates, boxing, Krav Maga, mixed martial arts, and musical theatre dance to offer an exploration of all the possibilities a body can hold. Above all, she believes that yoga is a personal and profound experience, and encourages students to let their intuition be their guide throughout every class.
