Who You Were/Are/Could Be

Hi, hi, hi there.
What's new this week?
APRIL. SPRING, MAYBE? IN SOME PLACES?
What's new in your world? New favorite snacks? New ideas? New vaccines? New...anythings??
I started a book I really love. I tried a new kind of 'all natural' cheetos that are exceptionally tasty. I received my second vaccine dose and so I'm starting to think about what that means for what comes next.
All kinds of things!
And it got me thinking on this:
Who you were is not who you are is not who you have to always be.
I believe this to be true individually and collectively.
It's not new for me to talk about transformation. But/And.
This week I'm thinking even bigger.
I'm thinking evolution.
I'm thinking about the evolution of humanity, and how we're in the middle of SUCH A BIG LEAP FORWARD (or at least we could be).
So many of our yoga practices orient us to the present moment. Which is important. And also:
it's important to remember.
Where have we come from? Can we look boldly, honestly, with both criticism and kindness, at everything that's come before?
it's important to realign.
What's happening in this moment and does it feel aligned with what I want to be doing? Can we look boldly, honestly, with both criticism and kindness, at what's happening and what we're doing right now?
it's important to re-envision.
What could come next? Can we look boldly, honestly, with highest hopes and gentle cynicism, at what we could become, together? Can we believe that our vision of the enxt step in our evolutions can be truly and disruptively different that what has been (and has not worked for all beings) in the past?
These thoughts or questions can feel extra big, to me at least, they can feel big and overwhelming and like they're about the most important and dramatic things in the whole universe or even multiverse.
But they can also be about the last time I spoke to a person I love and will speak to again soon, the last time I ate a thing I'm about to eat again, some certain behavior I do most days.
Does that make any sense??
These questions can start small. Starting small focuses our awareness into honest relationship with self. Which is the first step to honest relationship with others.
Remember.
Realign.
Re-envision.
(okay, "re-envision" is terrible, but it's just too appealing to have them all start with "re," and I can't help myself, and "revision" doesn't quite feel right, and so here we have it please forgive me thank you and good night)
Who you were is not who you are is not who you have to be.
Each day you are new from who you were yesterday.
Each backbend is new from the last backbend.
Each breath is connected to every breath that came before, is unique to this moment, and connects to but does not dictate the quality of the breath that will come next.
So.
Who were you? Who are you? Who do you want to be?
And together:
Who have we been?
Who are we now?
Who do we want to be?
The possibilities are limitless.
Let's dream big.
Let's dream smart.
&
Let's dream kind.
